Expert Survival Tip: Get Involved In Designing Your Bridesmaid Jewelry
Amelia Lock, jewelry designer and owner of Amelia Rose Designs, works with both brides and bridesmaids to create unique, custom-made wedding day jewelry. Amelia recommends turning a wedding task into a bridal party event - a jewelry designing party. Check out Amelia’s Expert Survival Tip for more on how to come together with your bride to create original, affordable designs:
Designing your own bridesmaid jewelry is a great way to ensure you wear what you like and stay within a comfortable budget!
Let’s face it, no matter how thoughtful a bride is in choosing her wedding party attire, most bridesmaid dresses do not see a second wear. Bridesmaid jewelry on the other hand is not only cherished after the initial wear, but can double as an excellent and meaningful gift to those in a wedding party. Finding the perfect jewelry as a bridesmaid is now easier than ever with more jewelry designers customizing pieces for wedding parties as well as self-serve/make-your-own venues offering the same.
Wedding party jewelry no longer consists solely of pearls as the options for creating customized pieces are now endless. Many jewelry designers and bead stores will individually work with wedding party members to hand-pick semi-precious stones to match or compliment the wedding colors. Attending a bead store or designer’s showroom to design together can also turn what essentially is one more item on a bride’s to-do-list into a fun activity for the entire wedding party. Some bead stores also offer manufacturing services on site to assist the less-crafty!
When designing jewelry it is important to keep your eyes peeled for sources of inspiration. Just like one would do at the hairdresser, don’t be shy about bringing in pictures from magazines. This could be a piece of jewelry shown on a model or just a particular color scheme, maybe a catching advertisement. Bottom line, inspiration can come from anywhere!
Any jewelry designer would appreciate the illustrative guidance and this also lessens the chance of your ideas getting lost in translation. Should matching wedding colors be most important, take along a swatch of fabric and hold this up to the bead strands until you find a good fit. Designing jewelry, as opposed to purchasing finished pieces, is also a great way to stay wallet-friendly as you have great control over how elaborate - or simple - your finished piece becomes.
Amelia’s colorful pieces initially struck a chord with brides and their wedding parties, but eventually the jewelry line took hold with retailers and is now carried in over twenty locations nationwide as well as on her website, www.ameliarosedesign.com.

Great Article!
Custom Jewelry is a great option for the wedding day. It allows you to get a piece that matches perfectly, and is exactly what you, and your bridesmaids, want. Of course I have designed many custom engagement and wedding rings, as well. After all, if you are going to wear it for the rest of your life, why not get something made just for you?
